Early Childhood
JK - 2nd Grade
Early childhood is a time filled with joy, wonder, exploration, and learning. Students learn by playing and doing hands-on activities, working together, learning to ask questions, and being curious. Inspired to be friendship makers and knowledge seekers, students in Junior Kindergarten - 2nd Grade show kindness, inquire about the world around them, and grow in their identity as children of a sovereign God.
Our Program
Bible: Partnering with parents while we introduce Bible stories everyday, a child’s spiritual journey is the foundation we are building on from the start. To that end, students learn biblical truths, memorize scripture, sing songs, and enjoy prayer time together.
Math: Confident and enthusiastic math students is our goal. Our teachers use hands-on learning – manipulatives, calendar time, games, and activities to help students learn basic facts like addition, subtraction, measurement, geometry, and patterns.
Science: “This is my Father’s world,” as the hymn tells us, and so our science program is engaged in investigating and experiments that reinforce the truth of God’s sovereignty over his creation. Students study living things and their habitats, natural resources, land and water relationships, light, weather, motion and change.
Language Arts: Reading opens up our imagination and we want to develop a love for reading right from the start. Phonics is our beginning point so students grasp the fundamentals and then apply what they have learned to reading stories and poems with fluency and comprehension. Students learn the foundations of grammar including parts of speech, writing in complete sentences, and spelling to enhance language development. Students participate in daily journal writing and handwriting exercises moving from manuscript to cursive writing.
History: We explore the history of our country, learning about the early colonies, our founders, and the historic documents that make the United States exceptional. Students also learn about the Native Americans, pioneers, and the Underground Railroad. We engage in conversations about our basic freedoms, learn patriotic songs, and discuss what a privilege it is to pray for and serve our Country.
Physical Education: A chance to run around and play always brings a smile to our students. Students play a wide variety of games to improve their physical abilities while having fun. They also work to demonstrate a Christ-like attitude on and off the fields and courts of play.
Art: Students are introduced to the elements of art and learn to express themselves creatively by exploring color, textures, lines, shapes, and patterns. They create self portraits and still life, illustrate Bible stories, and collaborate together to create works of arts. Themes from the classroom are also incorporated into art as students enjoy an interdisciplinary experience.
Spanish: For our Spanish program at the Early Childhood level, we evoke interest, awareness and enthusiasm for the language and the people who speak it. The program allows for students to engage in games, sing songs, and study Spanish-speaking cultures. Hands-on projects in Spanish create tools for review and repetition as well as a framework for learning the language in a tangible way.
Music: Our Early Childhood students experience a warm, hands-on and experiential music environment where students develop the foundational music skills of steady beat, internalizing rhythm, vocal development, beginning sight singing and ear training, dance, and basic music theory. Our early childhood music program blends rigor and fun to challenge the students to develop musically with exciting and stimulating full-body activities such as body percussion, solfege singing, call and response drumming and Orff instrument playing. Our curriculum explores famous composers and their impact on society and history through books, listening and guided music conversations. Students can present several age-appropriate performances throughout the year in ensemble or as soloists.
