A Hero’s Welcome: Middle Schoolers Greet Honor Flight Veterans
Today marked a powerful moment for our middle school community. As part of Middle School Missions Week, students in grades 6-8 traveled to Dulles Airport. They gathered there to participate in a special Permian Basin Honor Flight arrival.
The atmosphere was electric with anticipation and gratitude.

What is the Permian Basin Honor Flight?
The Permian Basin Honor Flight is a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This all-volunteer group transports West Texas veterans to Washington, D.C. at no cost. These three-day trips allow heroes from the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam eras to visit their memorials.
For many, this trip provides the “welcome home” they never received.
Hand-Crafted Thanks
Our students wanted to ensure these veterans felt loved immediately. Therefore, they spent time creating beautiful, hand-crafted signs. These posters offered simple yet profound messages of thanks.
As the veterans moved through the terminal, our students stood tall. They waved their signs and cheered for every hero.
A Deeply Emotional Connection
The impact of the meeting was immediate and profound. Some students felt moved to tears by the experience. They saw pure joy on the faces of the veterans.
Furthermore, the veterans expressed immense appreciation for the warm greeting. This interaction bridged the gap between generations. It turned a history lesson into a heartfelt reality.

Continuing a Legacy of Honor
This inclusion in Middle School Mission Week ties perfectly into one of our school’s core values. Each year, we host our Veterans Day Concert to celebrate those who served. We proudly honor over 200 veterans within our own local community during that event.
Because of today’s experience, our students now have a deeper connection to that tradition. They understand that honoring a veteran is about more than just a song. It is about acknowledging their sacrifice with a grateful heart.
“The joy we saw today is something we will never forget.” — Providence Academy Student
We are so proud of our students for their empathy and respect today. They truly showed what it means to serve others.
