Providence Academy Art Studio: Creative Expressions Across K–8
Vibrant Foundations in Lower School
Our students have been exceptionally busy creating masterpieces in art class this month. Through our Providence Academy art program, young artists explore color, technique, and imagination.
For instance, kindergarteners experimented with paint to create overlapping shape artwork. Meanwhile, first graders used a crayon-resist technique to make colorful “happy line” paintings. Next, second graders studied the cut-paper artwork of Henri Matisse to practice composition.

Storytelling and Inventions in Grades 3 and 4
Our Lower School students brought playful ideas to life through unique projects. For example, third graders gave ordinary household objects secret personalities and imaginary lives.

Fourth graders learned about Rube Goldberg machines to design their own “impossible inventions.” These creative machines challenged students to solve everyday problems in hilarious ways.
Personal Expressions and Design in Middle School

Middle School artists focused on refining their techniques and giving constructive feedback. First, fifth graders chose their favorite art challenges to turn into finished artwork. Similarly, sixth graders finished their planning unit to bring sketchbook ideas to life.
Additionally, seventh graders used personal symbols and imagery to complete self-portraits. Finally, eighth graders completed custom playing cards to wrap up their design study.

The eighth graders also participated in a helpful TAG critique to encourage each other. Students told artists what they liked, asked questions, and offered constructive advice. Ultimately, our Providence Academy art program continues to celebrate every child’s God-given creative potential.
