Providence Academy Art Update: Exploring Creativity Across Grade Levels
Building Foundations in Kindergarten Through 4th Grade
Our elementary students are diving into a vibrant new year in the art room with Ms. Dinneen. Through our Providence Academy art program, young artists are getting acquainted with routines and creative tools.
Students in Kindergarten through 4th grade are finishing decorations on their personal sketchbooks. Consequently, these custom sketchbooks will hold their ideas and artwork throughout the entire school year.
Developing Ideas in 5th and 6th Grade
As students grow older, they learn to think deeply about the artistic process. For example, 5th grade students are learning how artists make creative decisions rather than just copying examples.
Meanwhile, 6th graders are exploring how sketching, planning, and experimenting lead to finished artwork. Afterward, these planning habits help students express their original thoughts with confidence.
Symbolism and Design in 7th and 8th Grade
Our older middle school students are tackling complex concepts in visual communication. In 7th grade, students are studying symbolism to create unique self-portraits without showing their faces. Additionally, 8th graders are studying the core elements of design to communicate powerful ideas. For instance, 8th graders are currently applying these principles as they begin designing custom playing cards.
Ultimately, our Providence Academy art program empowers students to share their God-given creativity. We are so excited to see the amazing artwork our students produce this year!
