Providence Academy Science Update: 3rd Grade Catapult Project

Learning the Engineering Design Process

Our third-grade students recently explored physics and hands-on creation in science class. Through our Providence Academy catapult project, students learned how to apply the engineering design process.

To start the lesson, children investigated a problem before sketching out their initial plans. Next, they gathered materials, built working models, and put their designs to the test.

Testing, Refining, and Biblical Perseverance

Engineering requires patience, critical thinking, and a willingness to learn from trial and error. After their first test launches, third graders carefully analyzed their results.

In addition, students redesigned and modified their catapults to make them launch even better. This process of testing and refining connects beautifully to a biblical concept found in James 1.

Scripture teaches us that working through challenges builds patience and refines our character. Just as engineers improve their designs through testing, we grow stronger in faith when we persevere through trials.

Celebrating Young Innovators

Hands-on projects help students embrace problem-solving with enthusiasm and resilience. Ultimately, our Providence Academy catapult project inspired our third graders to think like true scientists. We are so proud of their hard work and creative problem-solving skills!
